April’s Theme is communication and how to make the connection with others.
How often do you talk to someone and it seems as thought they aren’t listening or are half-listening or are flat-out ignoring you? If you have kids, that probably happens often…and that’s part of the parent-child dynamic. Yet one of the best things we like about our best friends is that they listen when we talk…and usually listen deeply. In our everyday communication, those are the two extremes.
So what happens with everyone in between? This month I’ll be looking at communication and sharing some ideas and tips. Here’s the first one:
Talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words.
Did you know that only 7% of our communication is verbal? 93% of communication is in eye contact, gestures, tonality, posture. That’s what makes writing an email so challenging. We are often writing so fast and not thinking about how the loss of that powerful 93% of our communication is being lost – so we have to add a 🙂 or 🙁 – just so the reader doesn’t get the wrong idea.
This week, pay attention to what you are doing when words are coming out of your mouth or being typed or texted into an e-message.
