It was just about this time last year when Kay, the sister of one of my good friends, fell over a box of tomatoes she had just picked from her garden. Unfortunately, she was seriously injured. She was taken to the hospital and required back surgery. In the weeks to come, her prognosis was bleak. The doctors told her daughter and sister that she would most likely never return to the home she loved. It was depressing.
The next few months brought another surgery, months of rehab, and talk of a permanent move into assisted living. Kay’s difficult recovery was complicated with insurance and financial conversations.
It was quite a year, but last month, to everyone’s joy, Kay went home. Of course, she has in-home care, but she’s glad to be back back in her own space and she’s improving.
Last week, Kay stunned her loved ones by announcing her plans to drive again. WHAT?
According to my friend, driving again seems unlikely. However, no one expected Kay to be back in her home ever. So who knows what miracles can happen? Clearly, Kay has a goal to be independent again. More importantly, Kay is a fighter.
That’s the secret!
If you ever wondered what the secret is to success, it’s having a compelling goal and the fight to make it happen. Wishy-washy hope won’t work. As Serena Williams once said, “I am lucky that whatever fear I have inside me, my desire to win is always stronger.” We know Serena is a fighter for her goals. So is Kay.
What about you? In just a few weeks we’ll be into the holiday crazies. So take a little time now to think about you and what will make you happiest in the coming new year. Here’s how to get started…
Your 3 Steps…
- Know WHAT you want to do.
- This ISN’T any “it would be fun if I…” or “Wouldn’t it be nice if I could…”
- This IS “I want…a new car (name the kind and options) – or – more money (how much?) – or a better relationship with my spouse/kids/sister (what does “better” mean?)
- Know HOW to do it.
- Making a plan will save you time, energy, and stress. If you want a new car, how much money do you need? How will you get the money, e.g. car loan? Where are the best dealerships – near you or online? What month will you get the best deal?
- DO it.
- Take action. Talk is cheap and action makes it happen
I’ve taught hundreds of people to use these three simple steps to make their lives better and happier. Of course, simple doesn’t mean easy. BUT, they work if you work them.
Get started now!
November’s the month of Thanksgiving, reminding us to be grateful for our blessings. Here are three gratitude affirmations you can use this month: Pick one for the month – or one each morning – and focus your thoughts on it throughout the day:
1 – I invite gratitude into my heart
2 – Today I’m noticing each blessing and saying “thank you”.
3 – I’m grateful to be alive today
As I’m working my way through this difficult metal detox and into healing, I want to say THANK YOU to the many readers who have wished me well. I’ve liked and appreciated each and every kind message!
WISHING YOU A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
With love and in victory,
Annmarie
