Power Tip#3 for Recharging Your Attitude: Meditate
You don’t have to spend an hour a day and chant “OM” for an hour. For a power meditation, all you have to do is breathe and pay attention to your breath. In and out. In and out. Focus on your breath and, when your thoughts distract you, just return to your breath, in and out. Five minutes in the morning will do it.
Of course, if you want to spend more time, chant “OM” or focus on a mantra or mantra-like word (like “peace” or “love” or “joy”) you can.
Can’t do it at home? When you are going someplace, go five minutes earlier. You can stay in your car and breathe or find a quiet or almost quiet spot (a park bench, the bus, in front of your computer).
Need to relax your body to relax your mind? Try walking meditation. It’s the same thing: while you’re walking, ditch the music and phone and focus on your breathing.
Some of the benefits of meditation (yes, even for just five minutes a day) are:
- Stronger immune system
- Lower blood pressure
- Greater emotional balance
- More confidence
- Better sleep
- More SELF-control
- Reduces hot flashes and other peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms
Who doesn’t want all that? It’s quite a big bang for your buck for just a few minutes. Try it for a full thirty days and see what happens.
