April: Women & Leadership

victorious woman project women and leadershipOur theme this month was Women and Leadership. If you missed all the inspiring and thought-provoking content I shared on my social media accounts, you can catch up here:

How do you show leadership within your life?

Here’s what feminine leadership is: you being in charge of your life. It’s what I often refer to as SELF-control. If you aren’t the leader of your life, in control of the authentic you (your real SELF), then someone else is – and you’re following them. While you are, there’s a really good chance that they might not be leading you in the direction you want to go. And even if you are going in the same direction, for example, if you have a joint goal, you still need to be in charge of your SELF. Need some Midlife Inspiration?

I’ve been posting my favorite quotes and inspiring sayings each week. Feel free to download & share these memes on your social media accounts too.

Join the Victory Chicks Community on Facebook!
This month we had a #victorychallenge – each day I posted a positive affirmation and the Victory Chicks printed it out and left it somewhere they’d see if often – so they could repeat it to themselves multiple times throughout the day. The postivity and inspiration this created was awesome and helped a lot of women get through the quarantine slump so many of us were feeling. This is a private group, so you’ll have to apply to join (Don’t worry, I’ll approve you!) and you can rest assure it’s a safe group where you can share without judgement.
Here are a few example of the affirmations we enjoyed this month:

Hate Your Job?

midlife women starting life over, be happy
What if YOU Live to be 100?

I hate my job and I hate working. If it wasn’t for the money and the medical benefits, I’d quit now.
Are you one of the many women who feel that way? Not so fast. One of the secrets to a long and healthy life might just be work – work you LOVE.

Passions are your key to happiness

Marilee Shapiro Asher was still sculpting and making art at 103 while living in her Washington DC retirement community. She told readers of her autobiography, published when Marilee was 102, “I have no personal philosophy of art, I do it because there is nothing else I would rather be doing.

Mabel Sawhill, in her third career, catered events. She was around so long that she catered some couple’s weddings AND their 50th anniversaries! When she died in her sleep at age 103, she still had catering gigs, and people yearned for her sticky buns and chicken salad. Her longevity secret: to be engaged and find delight in everything life had to offer.

Honey Canney started teaching water aerobics in 1972. She she was in her early sixties then. She still teaches those classes three times a week -at 103! Though she is nearly blind as a result of macular degeneration, she finds the water gives her freedom. And, she says, “I can be of some use to somebody and not sit around and suck my thumb. I miss the things I can’t do, but I kinda dwell on the ones I can do.

For Rose Torphy, 103-year-old great grandmother loves helping to preserve one of America the Beautiful’s crowing glories, the Grand Canyon – which was formed 100 years ago, when Rose was just a little girl!. When she was recently inducted as a Grand Canyon junior ranger, Rose told Good Morning America.“I am so happy someone is watching over it so that my great-great-grandchildren can visit it someday too.”

What’s your passion?

If you knew for sure that you were going to live to be 100, what would you do differently? Would you get that law degree or satisfy your love of animals by becoming a veterinarian? Maybe you’d start your own business, become a teacher or a psychologist?

What fabulous itch is just dying to be scratched?

Whatever it is, take the first step today. Do some online research, connect with someone who is already doing it, make a vision board and start dreaming.

And you can join me for the next Savvy Sizzle Master Class. Sign up for my newsletter and be the first to get info for the next one.

AnnmarieKelly.WCBM_..web_-150x120Starting a Business and Building Your Tribe

As we start looking toward the New Year of 2016, many of us get fired up about becoming more empowered. So entrepreneur Kristi Notto came to Happy hour and talked with us about starting a business, product/business branding and tribe building.
Before she left, Kristi said she “wanted to think of something really big and crazy generous I could share with your listeners… and I thought of WHAT IF I COULD OFFER THEM EVERYTHING for this WHOLE year at one low price.”
So that’s what she has for you: “The Everything Pass” for $197. That includes 1 coaching session with me, a year membership in my Awesome Academy, access in my private Facebook group, a new module every month, and private monthly Q&A calls.” This package will be $2000 in January, but, for the next WEEK, you can get The Everything Pass for $197. I talked about the Republican debates that happened yesterday, one in late afternoon and the other at night. My personal favorite in the debates was Carly Fiorina, the former head of Hewlett-Packard. She’s a midlife woman who is putting herself out there. She’s smart and savvy and going toe-to-toe with the other prospective candidates. If you want to know more, check her out: Carly Fiorina
Today’s quote came from Sarah Ban Breathnach, who says,

What if you began to expect the best from any situation?
Isn’t it possible that you could write new chapters in your life with happy endings?
Suspend your disbelief. Take a leap of faith.
After all, what have you got to lose but misery and lack?”

Here’s to losing the misery and lack and writing fabulous chapters that make midlife the BEST time!!

Girlfriends Helping Girlfriends

new_girls_shotAHave you ever tried to get a business started but couldn’t quite get it past the first stage? If you have, the most likely reason you couldn’t grow was money. Banks aren’t overly interested in giving business loans to women. And that’s why funding sites like Kickstarter and Crowdfunding have become so popular, especially for women with a product and a dream…and the Prosperity Sisters are among them.
I met The Prosperity Sisters from Full-Spirited Flavours almost five years ago. Ever since, between their great spirit, hysterical sense of humor and the most awesome cakes you’ve ever tasted, they’ve been keeping me laughing and dessert-satisfied!! They’re Victorious Woman Honorees and, at every Girlfriend Gala since 2012, they’ve been donating the desserts that have made hundreds of the girlfriends happy!!
Full-Spirited Flavours has been Rachel Ray’s snack of the day and viewers were crazy for them on QVC. Martha wanted the recipe. It’s the most popular dessert at Limoncello Restaurant in West Chester and the #1 seller at Montesano Bros in the Wayne Farmers Market.
My favorite of the liquor-infused cakes is Mango Coconut Rum (I LOVE the big pieces of mango), but I can’t turn away from the Limoncello or their signature cake, Amaretto. However, Joseph, the chocoholic in the family, can’t resist the Chocolate Razz Prosperity Cake.
Now the Full-Spirited Flavours bakers, Sue, Carole and Kathy, want to go big, so it’s easier for you to get them for your next dinner party, barbeque or special event. They’re doing a Kickstarter Campaign and need your help. Check out their video and find out what it’s all about…and, with your donation, you’ll get a little something special from The Prosperity Sisters! Check it out: https://kck.st/1FnMQPv
And The Prosperity Sisters are joining me for Chick Chat this Friday, June 19, 3-4pmEDT. I’m live and local in West Chester PA on 1520AM and live and online everywhere in the world at the Friday Happy Hour (click the microphone to listen)

Advance Your Career

Advance your career victorious woman projectStudies have shown that two-thirds of your success depends on your emotional competence. If you are reinventing your career/business, YOU INC, so that you will be more successful in the New Year, you have to marry your experience and expertise with emotional competence.
Over the years I’ve watched so many really smart women with a wealth of experience either get passed over for promotions or lose sales because they lacked some key skills, like failing to take charge of their career. So, as the CEO of YOU INC, the fastest way to ramp up your EI skills is to give yourself a performance review. Here’s what to ask yourself:

  • Are you where you want to/expected to be at this point in your life? If not, what’s missing? Money? Position? Happiness?
  • Have you been working hard but not doing much about becoming a leader in your field?
  • Are you focusing on the day-to-day tasks or do you see your day-to-day tasks as a stepping stone to your career goal?
  • Are you fully engaged?

Many women see the work they do in the “worker bee” category (you go to work, do your job well and go home). If you want to ramp up your career, you need to maximize your SMARTWOMAN@WORK skills: go to work, do your job well AND

  1. get involved with the company, e.g. joining an affinity/leadership group, helping with the company’s 5K or golf outing charity event
  2. seeing the “bigger picture” of YOU INC at the company, including:
  • volunteering for assignments that give you exposure to a greater number of people in management or at the executive level (so they get to know your skill, work ethic and personality)
  1. developing your influencing skills
  2. find people who will mentor/sponsor you
  • On January 24, 2012 I’m offering a webinar designed specifically for women who want help with mentoring, including: kinds of mentors, finding a mentor, getting started, what to do at mentor meetings. If you are on my mailing list, you’ll get advanced notice. Sign up for my mailing list here:
