'Bout Time Augusta National!

Rice and Moore Open Doors for Women

For many years the Augusta National Golf Club refused to admit women into their club. But that’s changed now. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and financial powerhouse Darla Moore have been invited to join.

It’s about time!

I’m not a golfer and don’t like everything gender-inclusive – like gender-neutral bathrooms (will men EVER learn to put the toilet seat down???). And, since Augusta is a private club, I think they should still be able to pick their members.

At the same time, a lot of business gets done on the golf course, so more and more women are taking up the sport (I’m actually considering it!). And the exclusive Augusta National Golf Club hosts the Masters tournament, is one of the four major golf tournaments. Keeping women out, including IBM president Virginia Rometty (IBM is a Masters sponsor), has been a mistake for Augusta. That women haven’t been allowed to play there has been significant (though I don’t think Rometty minded so much – she says she prefers scuba diving to golf).
